Unleashing Creativity: The Role of Saturn Return in Doja Cat's Artistic Evolution
Last night I was watching Doja Cat’s performance at the 2023 VMA’s and pondering the amount of public scrutiny and drama she has experienced, particularly in the past several months. Not to mention, the social-media fueled and intense personal reinvention she has been unveiling, however elusive. Blood covered dancers aside, it seems like she has been going through some gruesome and beautiful rebirth.
This prompted me to look up her astrological birth chart, as I do anytime a celebrity piques my interest, hoping to find direct connections between their experience and the stars (celestial, not celebrity). Usually I can find some kind of explanation, but it was especially chilling in this case.

Surprise, Surprise! The first thing I noticed when I glanced at Doja’s chart: She’s in her first Saturn Return, and it’s in Pisces/5th house.
What does ‘Saturn Return’ mean?
Saturn takes approximately 27-29 years to fully orbit the sun. We say ‘return’ when a planet revisits the same sign in which it resided at the moment of your birth. For most, sometime around their 29th birthday (it can start 1-2 years before depending on the degree)the effects of Saturn Return will begin.
There are 12 zodiac signs and it takes Saturn approximately 2.5 years to move through each sign, in chronological order.
For example; anyone born between January 28, 1994 and April 7th, 1996 are currently going through their first Saturn Return, just like Doja Cat. Saturn was in Pisces when they were born, and Saturn is in Pisces now and for the next couple of years.
Everyone who was born between the above dates are going through their first Saturn Return in the same sign of Pisces. But it’s the house that Saturn is moving through that will give more insight as to how it effects each person. This varies greatly.
The Saturn Persona is that of a compassionate hardass, your greatest teacher.
The house where Saturn lives in your Chart can highlight areas in life where you struggle, that pose challenges, or where you have felt othered.
Saturn can show where you hold the highest morals and where you may feel a sense of lack, guilt, fear, shame, and self-consciousness.
Saturn is about big life lessons. It brings to the surface what needs to be worked on, if it has yet to be resolved by the time your first Saturn Return starts.
Your first Saturn Return is essentially a karmic ‘rite of passage’ into actual adulthood, preparing you to move into your 30’s (where, let’s be real, is where the reality of ‘adulting’ really hits hard).
Rest assured, no matter how hard your SR might get, you will most-likely come out the other side of it wiser and stronger in the area that it challenges.
What does this mean for Doja Cat?
When Doja was born, Saturn was in Pisces and moving through the 5th house in her personal birth chart. Each house in Astrology has rulership over particular life themes. The 5th house rules themes such as Creativity, Artistic Pursuits, Children, Love Affairs and Self Expression. This means that any unresolved issues around these subjects will be brought to the surface during her Saturn Return.
To deepen our understanding, these lessons will all be learned through the lens of the sign that Saturn is under, in Doja’s case it’s Pisces. Pisces is all about the subconscious, psychic experiences, emotional intensity, compassion, escapism, daydreaming, paranormality and spirituality.
Simply put: Saturn has come back around to help Doja Cat unleash her Creative potential through experiencing upheaval and intense change within her subconscious world and artistic expression.
Real Life Doja SR Examples:
Date of Reinvention: If you look at her instagram profile you won’t see anything before April 11, 2023. This is shortly after Saturn entered its return in her chart in March 2023. Perhaps prompting a need to hide past triggers and start anew? This is a prime example of her ever-evolving reinvention and that it started right on time. Anything pre-SR is no longer.
Spider Theme: This might seem like a stretch, but it’s my favorite example. Have you noticed that Doja has shared numerous posts including spiders? She’s gotten at least one spider tattoo this year and she sported a Spider Web Gown on the red carpet at the VMA’s. On a spiritual and mythological level, Spiders represent Creativity, artistry, and imagination. These are all things that have to do with 5th house themes in astrology. Seems strikingly fitting that a spider should be her mascot during this time.
Self Expression and Fan Drama: Many fans and non-fans have expressed their shock, disgust and disappointment over Doja’s transformation and self expression over the past many months. This all seems like a huge test from the universe to help Doja move through her own insecurities when it comes to what others think. And we’ve seen that she isn’t hiding from the challenge. Her response has been to lean even harder into her self expression and has even invited her fans to ‘stop following me’. A response that proves that she is b***s deep in this transformation. She’s going to continue to be authentic, even if she has to alienate a few followers in exchange for her personal growth. More power to her.
Talk Therapy: It just so happens that around the first Saturn Return is when many people seek out therapy and other solutions to quell daily anxieties and fears. And most people will have plenty of anxieties and fears during this time, so it makes perfect sense. Doja’s 'shocking behavior’ has prompted many followers/fans/trolls to comment sentiments along the lines of “you need therapy”. To which Doja responded in the lyrics of her latest release “Attention":
I read it, all the comments sayin', "D, I'm really shooketh"
"D, you need to see a therapist, is you lookin'?"
Yes, the one I got, they really are the best‘High’ Art: I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve been quite entertained by the amount of art Doja has been creating. From strange video and image collages to acrylic paintings of demons and cryptids, and down to her outfit choices. She is blatantly going through a period of artistic awakening - whether the critics regard it as such or not. Again, all matters of the 5th house and Pisces. I can’t make this sh*t up.
What can we expect from Doja next?
IMO, we can expect that she will continue to push the boundaries of social norms through her art. Probably always (according to the overall story of her chart), but especially over the next couple of years. The peak of her Saturn Return will be sometime around May 2024, so we will see what manifests leading up to and around that time (expect a checkin blog around that time).
